HISTORY

 

Kids' Time opened its doors in the fall of 1988.  We were open for preschool only and provided daily sessions for children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 5.  It soon became apparent that our parents were also in need of childcare services.  We began providing childcare the school year of 1991-1992.  It wasn't long and we were at capacity, with children waiting to enter our program.  It was our dream to have a building large enough to meet the needs of parents and children in our community.  In October of 1996, we began building and opened the new location of Kids' Time in April of 1997.

ADMINISTRATORS

 

The owner of Kids' Time is Colleen Swank.  She graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and has a Masters Degree in Reading.  After graduating, her teaching experience was gathered through substitute teaching for the Calhoun and Branch Area Schools for 1 1/2 years and teaching for 4 years at Tekonsha Area Schools.  She started the preschool in 1988.  The summer of 1996 she was hired by Athens Area Schools to set up and run a school age childcare program for students in the Athens School District.  In 1999, Colleen started teaching in the Athens Schools as a Title 1 and At Risk teacher.  She is now the Title director for the schools as well as administrator and director of the Great Start Readiness Program.

 

The Director of Kids' Time is Dawn Miller.

 

Dawn Miller graduated with her Masters Degree in Early Childhood and her Bachelors Degree in Child and Family Development at Western Michigan University.  Dawn has her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kellogg Community College.  She has been an employee of Kids' Time since 2006.
